Ruth Kastner, alto, started out as an instrumentalist, earning her Bachelor of Music Education degree in violin. After hearing the music of William Byrd, she pursued vocal music. She has sung with the Maryland Palestrina Choir, the Schola Cantorum of the Cathedral of St. Matthew the Apostle in Washington, D.C., and founded and directed a community ensemble, the Byrd Singers, dedicated solely to the sacred vocal music of William Byrd. She has also written a screenplay about the life of Byrd and his compatriot, Fr. Edmund Campion.
