Lori Hedrick Helfand, mezzo soprano, joined Cantores in Ecclesia in 2010. She has sung with Portland Symphonic Choir for 10 years, serving as alto section leader for 6 years and soloing with them. She has also sung with Portland Baroque Orchestra, the Oregon Symphony, the Houston Symphony Chorale and, in 2010, she sang at Carnegie Hall with Distinguished Artists International. Also in 2010, she released a CD of a new song cycle, “Canticles of Sushila” (part of a larger work of poetry entitled Waters of the Afternoon by poet/composer Claudia Jensen Dudley) and gave its premiere performance in San Francisco with the composer at the keyboard.
In her brief and dazzling career as an arts administrator, she worked for the National Endowment for the Arts, Houston Grand Opera, Young Audiences, and the Pickle Family Circus.
Lori holds a music degree in piano performance from Stanford University. She and her husband live in Portland and they have 2 daughters. She loves puzzles, snow, pop music, and the color yellow.
